Upcoming exhibition at the Sugar Hill Art Gallery to showcase the work of a local artist

Drawings by a Suwanee resident will be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the Sugar Hill Art Gallery.

“Abundant Realms” will feature the work of Paige Short, who brings colorful imagery of various subjects to life using alcohol markers, colored pencil, ink, and sometimes soft pastels in her work.

Short graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing.

“I have had a deep passion for art for over a decade now and have grown as an artist,” she said. “Abundant Realms is based on how each of my pieces contains an abundance of detail and flora, with realms reflecting that I aim to create a dreamlike world, or realm, in my pieces, with fantastical aspects.”

Short said his plays were meant to draw viewers in so they would want to know more about the story behind the subjects.

“Much of my work seeks to depict subjects dreamlikely surrounded by decorative representations of natural aspects largely to represent surreal, supernatural beings, or personify the symbolism, concepts, or other non-human objects of a way that brings them to life as a human form,” Court said. “Often I use natural and floral imagery to adorn illustrations for aesthetic purposes, while also using the meanings these details have to add to the general ambiance of each room.”

“Abundant Realms” will be on display from Monday, January 10 through Friday, February 18. The Sugar Hill Art Gallery is located at 5010 W. Broad St. in the Broadstone complex. Gallery hours are generally 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. As the gallery is run mostly by volunteers, call 678-541-6125 to make sure the gallery is open before visiting.

An opening reception for “Abundant Realms” will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 13 at the gallery.
