Craignair Art Gallery presents the work of Spruce Head artist Katharine Cartwright

The Craignair Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition titled “Third Watch” by Spruce Head artist Katharine Cartwright until August 22.

This series of India ink drawings depicts the standing and running rigging of the tall ships she sailed in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

“I focus on the beautiful and elegant designs achieved by ropes and lines on these historic vessels where traditional seamanship is still practiced today,” Cartwright said in a press release. “Some of the detailed drawings contain over 40,000 pen strokes. Cartwright’s paintings have been featured in award-winning international exhibitions and in hundreds of private and corporate collections. His works have also been featured in notable publications such as Arts Practices, Art Scope Magazine, Visual Language Magazine, Best of Worldwide Watermedia,, and A walk through the summaries. The Maine Arts Commission recently exhibited his work at the State House in Augusta, Maine. Notably, Cartwright served as an art consultant and designer of the exterior wall paint pattern at the Mid-coast School of Technology in Rockland.

The Craignair Art Gallery is located at the Craignair Inn at the end of Clark Island Road in Spruce Head. Gallery hours are daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and informally throughout the day. For more information, visit
