The Valley Art Gallery is calling for artists to participate in a juried exhibition titled “Slopes of Diablo 2022”. The subject is each artist’s perspective and interpretation of East Bay’s ubiquitous landmark, Mount Diablo.
Only two-dimensional mediums – painting, drawing, photography, engraving, collage or mixed media – will be accepted, as well as recent original works (no reproductions). The juror will be Randall Sexton, an award-winning, nationally recognized California landscape painter. First prize is $350; second place is $250; third place is $150; and there will be three honorable mentions.
The gallery is at 1661 Botelho Drive, Suite 110, in Walnut Creek. The exhibition will run from May 14 to June 25 with an opening reception on May 15. For more information, visit online at valleyartgallery.orgemail [email protected] or call 925-935-4311.

See the Oscar-nominated foreign film “Yak in the Classroom”
The Lamorinda Film and Entertainment Foundation presents “Yak in the Classroom,” this month’s offering in the International Film Showcase (IFC) series, which opens March 25 at the Orinda Theater. The Oscar-nominated film tells the story of a disillusioned teacher who is transferred to the most remote school in the world, cut off from modern life, deep in the Himalayan glaciers in the village of Lunana.
In a classroom without electricity or even a blackboard, he finds himself with only a yak and a song that echoes through the mountains. Without supplies and in charge of teaching the children of the village, he dreams of fleeing to Australia and becoming a singer. The Orinda Theater is located at 4, Orinda Theater Square.
